It seems like every year I am faced with a teacher who wants to keep a grade 8 student in Middle School for another year. Usually these requests are for one of two reasons: The student is not working hard, and thus is not meeting learning outcomes. Recently in Vancouver there has been a proliferation of gangland shootings taking place in public places, and it seems inevitable that someone innocent will be killed.
